Welding wire, found objects,
Victory Brown wax, 3D printed objects, aluminum mesh
My aim is achieved through spatial and material means. The size of the work and variety of scales of objects requires viewers to lean into the work, bringing them into a more active mode of perception. I created wax figurines which are amalgamations of the found objects and the negative space they formed. The figurines contain elements of the familiar alongside the alien. This balance of knowing and unknowing encourages viewers to actively engage with the piece, just as I actively engaged with found objects on my urban wanderings. I then 3D-printed the figurines, along with a few rusted found objects and tools. I deliberately left the gaps and floating elements which the scanning app created to see how the objects would be affected by the digitization. To create an abstracted sense of a city-scape, I created wire and mesh structures which resemble architectural scaffolding. I finally placed the entire landscape on a rusted plank and bucket, both found objects, in order to make the diorama itself stand as a strange discarded object.
