Ornaments for Living Colored pencil, graphite, pen on paper, Adobe illustrator
The world is obsessed with constant productivity.
So I designed absurd, ornate jewlery wearables that waste time & inconvenience their user.
They aren’t meant to be practical or efficient.
The slow, uncomfortable experience of using the objects reconnects people with their bodies & triggers them to reimagine their habits & engage with the world more deliberately.
The gems that decorate the jewlery are modular building blocks, designed based on a mix of digital and natural motifs.
Exhibited at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery in Claremont, CA. Neon green plays a symbolic role throughout the works. Green is the color most commonly associated with nature, but the implementation of neon emphasizes the influence of digital technology in our contemporary conceptions of ‘natural’.
