This painting depicts a new genre of memorial architecture inspired by community gardens.
To reimagine the idea of a public memorial, I integrated landscape into the architecture, making the work susceptible to the elements & encouraging the public to participate more actively in remembrance.
The memorial’s rows of rectangular concrete plant beds are reminiscent of both tombs and gardens - combining symbols of both death and growth. The rows are spaced out so people can comfortably plant in and cultivate the memorial garden.
