Grocery List Plywood, projection, found objects, silicon, plexiglass Lee Lozano once wrote that she “was married to art but…science was [her] mistress.”
This work is an experiment on power of materiality.
I projected an image of mold, under a microscope, on different found materials to explore how the projection changes based on the materials’ surface quality.
This installation was designed and hand-built specifically for the brutalist architecture & stark lighting of the Lang Studio Art Building in Claremont, CA. Through the experimentation of projecting images on different found materials, this work references the history of Lang as a former laboratory. Plywood is the main structural component of this project to reference the imprint of wood casing on the concrete exterior of the building. The work’s geometric structure is based on Brutalism’s focus on axiality and legibility.
